Started in 1919, the Golden Purple Society of Vancouver provided a place of community for Mah Family members. Over its
illustrious history, and under various different names, the Society served its members and the Chinatown community during
good and difficult times. The Society, under the name of the Mah Benevolent Society of Vancouver, was registered
on March 28, 1960.
We are involved in sustaining the Chinatown community through fundraising, along with other community building initiatives, supporting
and co-operating with other community associations, organizations and societies.
The Society is also home to the Mah Athletic Association, which was formed in 1978, whose students are trained in the Martial
Arts and Lion Dance. We have just recently formed the Mah Society Youth Group to provide programs and services to our future generations.
